Well, let's get things started with a free pattern. Because everybody loves a free pattern!
This is my version of Bella's La Push Hat. It's done in a bulky yarn and I'm sure the original was done in something smaller. So sue me. I like bulky yarn. This pattern is also available as a Ravelry download: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bellas-la-push-hat-from-twilight
Materials:
3 oz (135 yds, 123 m) bulky (5) yarn
Crochet hook size K/6.5MM
Yarn needle
Special Stitches:
fpdc (front-post double crochet): Yo and insert hook from the front to the back around the post of the stitch on the previous row, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo, pull through remaining 2 loops.
bphdc (back-post half-double crochet): Yo and insert hook from the back to the front around the post of the stitch on the previous row, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through all loops on hook.
bpdc (back-post double crochet): Yo and insert hook from the back to the front around the post of the stitch on the previous row, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo, pull through remaining 2 loops.
Pattern
Ch 3, join with a slip stitch in 1st ch to form a circle.
Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc), work 11 dc in circle. Join with a slip stitch to top of beg ch-3. (12 dc)
Round 3: Ch 1 (does not count as hdc here or throughout) hdc in same space, hdc in next stitch, fpdc around same stitch, fpdc in next stitch, *hdc in next hdc, (hdc, fpdc) in next fpdc, fpdc in next fpdc. Repeat from * around. Join with a slip stitch to 1st hdc. (12 hdc, 12 fpdc)
Round 4: Ch 1 hdc in same space, hdc in next hdc, hdc in next fpdc, fpdc around same stitch, fpdc in next stitch, *hdc in each of the next 2 hdc, (hdc, fpdc) in next fpdc, fpdc in next fpdc. Repeat from * around. Join with a slip stitch to 1st hdc. (18 hdc, 12 fpdc)
Round 5: Ch 1 hdc in same space, hdc in each of the next 2 hdc, hdc in next fpdc, fpdc around same stitch, fpdc in next stitch, *hdc in each of the next 3 hdc, (hdc, fpdc) in next fpdc, fpdc in next fpdc. Repeat from * around. Join with a slip stitch to 1st hdc. (24 hdc, 12 fpdc)
Round 6: Ch 1 bphdc around same stitch, bpdc around the next 3 hdc, fpdc around next 2 fpdc, *bpdc around each of the next 4 hdc, fpdc around each of the next 2 fpdc. Repeat from * around. Join with a slip stitch to 1st bpdc. (24 bpdc, 12 fpdc)
Round 7: Ch 1 hdc in same space, hdc in each of the next 3 bpdc, hdc in next fpdc, fpdc around same stitch, fpdc in next stitch, *hdc in each of the next 4 bpdc, (hdc, fpdc) in next fpdc, fpdc in next fpdc. Repeat from * around. Join with a slip stitch to 1st hdc. (30 hdc, 12 fpdc)
Round 8: Ch 1 hdc in same space, hdc in each of the next 4 hdc, hdc in next fpdc, fpdc around same stitch, fpdc in next stitch, *hdc in each of the next 5 hdc, (hdc, fpdc) in next fpdc, fpdc in next fpdc. Repeat from * around. Join with a slip stitch to 1st hdc. (36 hdc, 12 fpdc)
Round 9-11: Ch 1 hdc in same space, hdc in each of the next 5 hdc, fpdc around same stitch, fpdc in next stitch, *hdc in each of the next 6 hdc, fpdc in next fpdc, fpdc in next fpdc. Repeat from * around. Join with a slip stitch to 1st hdc. (36 hdc, 12 fpdc)
Round 12: Ch 1 bpdc around same stitch, bphdc around the next 5 hdc, fpdc around next 2 fpdc, *bpdc around each of the next 6 hdc, fpdc around each of the next 2 fpdc. Repeat from * around. Join with a slip stitch to 1st bpdc. (36 bpdc, 12 fpdc)
Round 13-16:Repeat Round 8-11.
Round 17: Repeat Round 9.
Round 18: Ch 1 bpdc around same stitch, bpdc around the next 5 hdc, fpdc around next 2 fpdc, *bpdc around each of the next 6 hdc, fpdc around each of the next 2 fpdc. Repeat from * around. Join with a slip stitch to 1st bpdc. (36 bpdc, 12 fpdc)
Fasten off.
Use yarn needle to weave in ends.
